Newbie here with SPD - LoudSmells - 01-05-2015

1. What brings you here?

I would like to develop a more personal understanding of myself and others like me, to thrive and delve further.

2. What is your relations to someone with SPD?

I recently found out I have SPD after years of not knowing what was 'wrong' with me... I knew I was different, but it just started affecting my daily adult life.

3. Share a little of your journey if you'd like.

I'm not shy. My childhood was shabby, but I turned out pretty well, despite my struggles. My parents never took me to the doctor for 15 years of my child life. I didn't know my feelings, sights, and smells could be such a gift, and a burden. I crave understanding and hope to learn how to channel this gift in a constructive way. No more feeling misunderstood!

4. Is there any immediate help you need?

Just some friendly conversation and insight.

5. SPD doesn't ruin your life! What are your gifts? Interests?

I can see in very high detail and have become a talented drawing artist. I see the world below the surface, understanding (or on my way to) the structure, anatomy, & physiology of all organisms and abiotic features. Form, shape, function define me and motivate me. I remember every scent I've ever encountered and am a great cook, I love smelling everything! I love eating and making food for others. Aesthetics are extremely important to me. I am a makeup artist. I am tactile seeking and love to create things with my hands, mixed media and crafts. I read extensively, love my fat cat, certain video games, huge Nine Inch Nails fan (auditory seeking!). Tattoos. I am a cinephile.

6. What do you like to do in your spare time? Any hobbies or interests?

Due to depression, I have halted many hobbies over the last few years.. I'd like to regain the motivation to continue with my hobbies. Clayworks, sewing, knitting, crocheting, drawing, painting, strength training, road cycling, weaving, hiking, video games, writing (never have before, really), etc. Currently, I muster up the energy to cycle (when the weather's nice), watch films, read, and play with my cat.

All in all, aside from the bad, I have had a rewarding life... I just hope to finally be able to FEEL that SENSE of reward. Learning about SPD made me so happy I almost cried in joy to find what was different about me. I'm wanting this to be a new chapter in my life, and I look forward to getting to know everyone.

For years I have went of my head at noises that no one else seemed to notice,to the point that I behaved quite child like I was told. I can't stand bright lights and get headaches every day.

People think I am a crack pot for the way I go on about silly little things, things like people clicking a pen, eating crisps, headphones up loud.

If you would like to hear it all get back to me. Just joind today and yours was the first message I read.
I also have dyslexia.
