Anyone else doing biomed CFGF? - AngelaVA - 03-05-2011

Not many posts in this forum, just curious if we are the only ones doing CFGF and biomed treatments?

RE: Anyone else doing biomed CFGF? - Dani - 03-05-2011

The forum here is actually 'ran' by a_letaw, aka Anna Letaw. She is quite the expert in these things, but doesn't check in too often since it's been so slow.

In other words, I believe this section will take off at some point, just not quite yet. Feel free to start talking about it though, and I can poke Anna to get her to check back in on the place, hehe. Tongue

It's kind of one of those things you have to be careful what you say about I think. We've had really good results but sometimes when you say that to the wrong person they get really annoyed or defensive about it - or just think you are a lunatic Wink

My current frustration is to find a regular doctor who at least sort of gets it so we have someone to go for regular checkups illnesses ect. For example she's really tiny so they think lots of milk must be what she needs, so she can grow, no matter that she's on a casein free diet. Just all kinds of annoying ignorant things like that.

I know a few people who have gone the biomed route and had great results... it's hard though, especially if you need to be casein and gluten free! The thing about knowing what a child can't handle is that they often suddenly START to thrive because their gut is actually absorbing nutrient.

It's kind of frightening how little many doctors know about so many things, especially nutrition... as you say, it's about being careful what you do say so that you don't open up the opportunity for the lecture about what you should be doing.

The other thing people don't get (and it drives me crazy) is that there are many "chemicals" in foods. We are generally dairy free because I get a rashy kind of thing if I have too much - I can tolerate small amounts cheese and yoghurt because that is milk that has been altered by enzymes etc where I can't tolerate milk, cream or icecream- the assumption lots of people make is that I must be lactose intolerant but it's not that at all, I don't get the typical abdominal pain/bloating/diarrhoea symptoms of lactose intolerance.

Yes! I have been working my way through Nourishing Traditions and information for the Weston Price foundation and have been learning a lot about stuff like this. It's very interesting but overwhelming if you try to think about it or change too much. For example, my kids can actually digest raw milk and raw milk products quite well but the FDA makes selling raw milk illegal so it's really hard to get your hands on (you can legally sell raw cheese so we do get that sometimes).

Yes, it is scary how little doctors know about nutrition. My younger daughter is very allergic to soy and throws up when I give her things with cow milk. She has been breastfed all along and at her 18 month well visit the doctor said since she is not drinking milk or soy milk I should start giving her formula. I left the fact suddenly giving a nursing toddler formula is really dumb alone and mentioned that all commercially baby formula has either soy or casein in it and he was completely surprised. Don't you think general knowledge of baby formula ingredients should be within a pediatricians field of knowledge?

Sort of a side track but have you ever tried So Delicious Coconut Milk ice cream? It is so good! The mango flavor is my favorite.

I've heard other people say that about unpasteurized milk... It's the same down here, the Australian FDA won't allow unpasteurised milk cheeses either though.

You're going to have get yourself a cow I guess. Nice old Holstein maybe... we could have a naming competition here for her....Big Grin

LOL!!! That would make backyard play time interesting. Maybe we would not have to mow.

RE: Anyone else doing biomed CFGF? - mawkinberd - 03-17-2011

Yeah, but the poo problem would be, well, tremendous. lol

I have wondered about this myself. My brother was allergic to cow's milk, so we raised goats when I was small. But I have no idea if casein is in goat's milk. And the more I investigate my family's illness history, the more I wonder about the links in all this. There is a strong genetic component in sensory problems, and my father's side of the family has all kinds of history of things like autism, SPD, and related things like dyslexia. And since there are a lot of food allergies there, too, I'm a bit concerned and wonder how that all links in.

I think it's ridiculous that a doctor wouldn't know more about nutrition. It's a major component of health! :/

Yes the poo would be a problem! With two kids not fully potty trained I deal with enough poo!

There is casein in goats milk however it has a different protein structure and some people who can't have cows milk can have goat's milk. Unfortunately, a lot of the goats milk from the store is ultrapasteurized which then makes it hard to digest again.

There are some really good books out there RE the connection between Autism, ADHD, SPD, learning disabilities, asthma and food allergies.

http://www.amazon.com/Healing-New-Childhood-Epidemics-Groundbreaking/dp/0345494504

http://www.amazon.com/Kid-Friendly-Autism-Cookbook-Updated-Revised/dp/159233394X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1300387360&sr=1-1 (the first half of this is informational about special diets and the second half is quite a good cook book IMO)

Dr. Sear's Autism Book touches on it a bit too.

RE: Anyone else doing biomed CFGF? - mawkinberd - 03-21-2011

In my abundant free time, I really do mean to check this all out more thoroughly. lol But I did love having goats growing up... besides being a great pet, the goat milk was very good. Besides that, I have few things I like better than good goat's cheese. Mmmmm... Too bad it's hard to have enough space to keep the animals for most families. Animal therapy is often good for kids with different problems, too.

That's it! Let's all make a sensory goat farm! Big Grin
